testing out some things

Just testing a couple of things out with this post.. mainly formatting so that when I upload chapter one on Monday it doesn't come out all funky and hard to read.

It begins!

Okay, after some asking around, the popular vote seems to be for me to write my first fiction novel series via this blog!  Just like I said in the previous post, I will be uploading around ten to fifteen pages per week for everyone to read and comment on or give feedback if one does so desire.

With that being said, I have a bit of planning done for the first book and some pages written here and there, but a majority of this book will be written week-to-week.... meaning that I will be writing the next chapter literally as you are reading the previous one!  Will it be perfect? Probably not.  Will it be fun and entertaining? Absolutely.

I will do my absolute best to upload each segment at 10:00pm EST on Monday  each week.  Obviously, that wonderful thing called life frequently likes to interfere.  I may slow down.  Some weeks might not have a submission.  I may even develop writer's block.  Like I said, I'm not perfect.  I think this will be the fun part, though.  You will all get to see a part of what I go through during the writing process... from good ideas to bad ones, to re-written chapters, and scrapped chapters.  One thing that you will all learn quite quickly is that this is *not* easy.

So what are we in for?

 Aiden Brande completely dreads beginning his Sophomore year of high school with thoughts of good grades, college, and careers looming over his head.  To make matters worse, his classmates now seem to think that he's some sort of freak.  After all, he had ignited the entire Boy's locker room, activated the sprinkler system, and burst his way into the gymnasium engulfed in flames and walked away from everything without the slightest trace of burnt skin or cooked clothing.  But Aiden discovers that this is his gift....  
Magic.  It exists beyond the books and movies.  It's as real as anything else. In fact, it's like living in a brand new world.  He quickly discovers the pleasures of magic.  Power, entertainment, career opportunities, friendship.  However, it comes at a price.  Secrecy, frustration, betrayal, and even death.  Magic is nothing like he thought it was, and suddenly, it's not as desirable as it used to be.

My first post!

So I've never run a blog before aside from Xanga about 903458394 years ago so I'm pretty pumped to get this one going.  Yes, I know the website looks pretty boring right now so I plan to add some fun pictures/links/videos when I get a feel for how to run this thing.  I'll be honest, it took me a full five minutes just to figure out how to edit the basic information on the right side of the page >.< 

With that said, let's answer some questions:

Why did I make this blog?

I created this blog primarily for fun.  Writing is my passion and I would really love to make it my full time job.  It doesn't matter if I'm a critic, blogger, or whatever, I just want to write.  Ideally, I would like to be an author, so this site is going to be geared towards original pieces that I have created and will be creating for your entertainment!

What can I expect to see on this blog?

You can definitely count on two to three things for this website:

Firstly, I am in the process of writing a five book novel series of the fantasy genre.  I am pretty deep into the plot and overall construction of the series and I am definitely gung-ho about finishing.  I am considering uploading one chapter per week for everyone to read (for free, of course) and comment on if they do so desire.  I figure if people can spend hours on the internet just browsing or wasting time on a social networking website, why not take twenty minutes to read an awesome story?  =)

Secondly, if I don't follow through with the first option, I'll be taking a similar route with a different genre.  I'll be writing a psychological thriller type of novel and will upload a chapter per week as mentioned above.  The five book fantasy series will be written in my office on Microsoft Word and you'll all just have to wait until Book 1 is finished to even know what it's about =P

Also, and this is a guarantee, I'll be casually blogging about the writing process!  If you've never tried to write creatively, you have no idea what the writing process entails.  Well, it's pretty difficult.  Creating a story is easy... making it interesting is the hard part.  There is so much that goes into plot and characters that it is just mentally exhausting.  The feeling of accomplishment and creativity is unparalleled, however, and that is exactly what keeps me writing.  I will be sure to blog about my extra creative days as well as my "writer's block" days, so to speak, so you can get into the mindset of a writer.  If I happen to inspire one of you to write, let me know!  I would love to hear it =)

Can you write ______ instead? I like that genre so much better!

If there is enough of a demand, I can try and put something together.  My creativity really seems to rest in fantasy, though.

Do you honestly expect people to read this blog?

Yes and no.  I would love to have hundreds of views per day; however, if that doesn't happen, I'll still be writing and posting because it is my passion.

When can I expect some material?

Considering that I just made this, it will probably be a few days before I get things together due to the amount of time I plan on spending to make the site more visually appealing.  I also have to clean out a room in my house to turn into my office.  I'll be sure to provide pictures when it is complete.  Most importantly, I have to create a poll to ask all of you which story you would rather read!  Once I feel that I have sufficient voting numbers, I will begin.
